Theodore D. Meldrum's Obituary
Theodore D. Meldrum, age 92, of East China Township, passed away unexpectedly surrounded by his loving family, April 29, 2025. He was born January 18, 1933 to the late Henry and Phoebe Meldrum in St. Clair.
On August 17, 1957, Ted married Noreene Hillis and they enjoyed 56 years of marriage. Noreene preceded Ted in death in 2013.
Ted graduated from Algonac High School in 1953 and was a member of the 1952 Algonac basketball team when they were state runner up. He was a longtime member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Marine City. Ted proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955 while stationed in Germany. Following his career as a tool and die welder for Ford Motor Company, Ted enjoyed 35 years of retirement. He was an avid card player and looked forward to his weekly euchre games at the VFW in Algonac and the American Legion in St. Clair. Ted also spent many years hunting, fishing and bowling. His love of golf was unmatched. Ted was fortunate enough to shoot a hole in one and also claim bragging rights as the winner of the Meldrum Open.
Ted is survived by his children, Kathleen (Michael) Hoover, Jill (Billy) Wichert, Jeff (Lisa) Meldrum and Karen (Verne) Westrick; grandchildren, Dana (Johnathan) Prentice, Teresa (Jordan) Bruce, Stefan (Nina) Bernardi, Ben (Lee-Ann) Condeelis, Courtney (Derek) Heaton, Dr. Jake (Kaitlyn) Kern, Jimmy MacDonald, Paul Westrick (Tessa), Dr. Alexandra (Andrew) Jowett, Jaclyn Meldrum, Aaron Kern, Dr. Mitchell (Jenna) Westrick and Mallory (Alex) May; great grandchildren, Isabella, Gabrielle, Vincent, Landon, Bronson, Ashton, Kalvin, Cora, Gabriel, Mia, Drake, Myla, Finn, Lucy, Lola, Riley and Hollis and fur baby, Willie.
Ted was predeceased by his siblings, Agnes Livingston, Karl Meldrum, Bernice LaCroix, Albert “Doe” Meldrum, Gerald “Jerry” Meldrum, Wilmer Meldrum, Harold Meldrum, Betty Dubay, Richard Meldrum, Henry “Junie” Meldrum, Barbara Lee, Norman “Mick” Meldrum, Nancy Avers and James Meldrum.
A funeral mass will be held Friday, May 16th at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Marine City. Visiting hours are Thursday, May 15th from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. A rosary recital will be Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Additional visitation Friday at church from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.
Private urn interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Marine City.
