Susan Gibson Uppleger's Obituary
Susan Gibson Uppleger, age 70, of East China Twp. passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, with her family by her side on October 28, 2025. She was born on April 5, 1955, to Jerry and the late Kay Gibson. Sue was a graduate of St. Clair High School, Class of 1973. Following high school, she went on to Michigan State University where she received her degree in Microbiology. Upon graduation, Sue completed an internship at Wayne County General and began her career in the lab at River District Hospital where her hard work and dedication earned her the role as the lab’s supervisor. Sue worked diligently for over 35 years before retiring to enjoy spending more time with her growing family. In her spare time, Sue loved to be active and travel. In her younger years, she was an athlete who loved kickboxing and was an avid skier. Sue and her family would take annual trips together to their favorite places like Disney World, when her son, Scott, was younger, and then to more relaxing destinations like Aruba and Mexico. Sue was a passionate advocate for all animals who made a point to care for any and every cat that needed help. She was also active in helping organize casino trips for the American Legion, Post 382. Sue was a passionate Marine City football fan. She attended nearly every game for over 25 years. Above all, Sue cherished the time she spent with her family. She took great pride in supporting her son and grandsons. Sue never missed one of Scott’s games - it didn’t matter if he was playing or coaching, he knew Sue would be there cheering his team on. That support carried a step further when she became a grandma to Thomas and Charlie. She showed endless amounts of love and care for them whether it was running them to one of their various activities like piano or gymnastics, spoiling them with shopping sprees at the dollar store or just simply hanging out with them. Sue loved nothing more than spending time with her grandsons.
She is survived by her son, Scott (Emily) Uppleger; grandsons, Thomas and Charlie Uppleger; father, Jerry Gibson.
She is preceded in death by her brother, Scott Gibson; mother, Kay Gibson.
Visitation for Sue will be on Sunday, November 2nd from 12:00 noon to 7:00 p.m. The family will be sharing a few words and memories at 6:00 p.m. and requests that guests dress in casual attire. Sue liked to be comfortable and therefore, it would only be right for those in attendance to dress comfortably. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the St. Clair County Humane Society, SNAP (https://gofund.me/4b82a22d3). To leave a message of comfort visit www.youngcolonial.com.
