Ritva (Tina) Lahti's Obituary
Ritva (Tina) Annele Paajanen Lahti, age 68, died March 20, 2016, after an illness of several years. She was born in Finland and immigrated to the U.S. at the age of 19. She was employed as a housekeeper for Marjorie Merriweather Post, founder of General Foods, and traveled extensively with the Post family to their homes in Nova Scotia, Maryland, and Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida. She later worked in restaurants in various cities including in Washington D.C. and New York. Tina was married a short time to Matti Lahti before he succumbed to cancer. Several years later, she married Jorma Lahti (no relation to Matti). They settled in Adair, Michigan and became U.S. citizens. Tina was employed as a hostess at Al's Place in Richmond before she retired. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, solving Sudoku puzzles, and traveling, including to Finn Fests in the U.S. and Canada. She was known for her wit and humor and was loved by all who met her. Tina was predeceased by her first husband and parents. She is survived by her husband, Jorma, four brothers in Finland, and a sister in Sweden. A memorial service will be held Tuesday March 29th at St. Matthew UCC, 8052 Chapin St. Casco Twp., MI 48064. In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to the wishes of the family.
