It's been a long time since we had any contact with you and Richard. Our Synod just informed us that he died on September 13. We add our condolences to you and your family on his death. May resurrection hope bring all of you comfort and strength.

Richard was our pastor for many years at Bethlehem Lutheran in Harrison Twp. He was an important part of our spiritual life and in the life of our family. He was present at times of great difficulty and times of great joy. We are sorry for your loss, Mary Alice, but we know he rests in the hands of Our Savior. Whenever we go to church on a particularly bad weather day we remember his saying "this is the kind of weather only the old and the sick can make it to church". He will be with us in our memories as we continue our way through life.
I am sorry for your loss please accept my deepest sympathy. I hope you will find your strength and comfort in Jesus promises of the earthly resurrection(:Acts 24:15) and the renewed Paradise earth, where death will be no more and no family will have to mourn the death of a loved one.-Revelation 21:3,4; Luke 23:43. May GOD(Psalms 83:18) grant you peace and comfort now during this grievous time.-Matthew 5:4.
I always enjoyed worshipping with Rev. Schlegel when I was visiting Aunt Christ and Uncle Joe. I always got something good out of his sermons and I am thankful for his regular prayers for my ministry. He served his Lord faithfully and we thank God for a faithful undershephard of the Good Shepherd. May we find comfort in the hope of the resurrection. Revelation 9:7-17.

I lost my friend. I remember when he spent his birthday sitting with me at the hospital while my late wife's diagnosis of inoperable cancer was delivered. And I know personally that he comforted many others in their time of need. On a lighter note, I fondly remember when Dick and I played touch football with our sons, Matt and Eric, while daughters Krista and Kirsten played their games. Mary Alice is also a dear friend, and I mourn her loss. His was a life well lived, and who can ask for a better legacy. Rest well, my friend.

So very very sorry to learn of Pastor Schlegell's passing.He was Pastor from 1975 till his retirement, we always laughed and shared jokes about the Detroit Lions. My sincere sympathy to Mary Alice and Krista his daughter and any grand children. he is welcomed by his lord and father that he loved and now is resting eternally; for a job well done good and faithful servant, enter now into the house of the lord. Thank you for being such a good neighbor to the Mihecoby family when we lived in Michigan. I know mom always looked to you all for comfort during her troubling times. My favorite memory of Mr. Schlegel is going to Vacation Bible School. Prayers for Mrs. Schlegel and family.
