Richard "Rick" Alan Hija's Obituary
Richard "Rick" Alan Hija, 76, of Marysville MI, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2025 after a courageous five year battle with lung cancer. He was surrounded by loving family in his final moments.
Born on February 15, 1949, in Owosso, MI, Rick was the son of the late Tony and Betty Hija. He was preceded in death by his brother Jack Hija.
Rick graduated from Marysville High School in 1967 and cherished the lifelong bond he shared with his graduating class. He was active in sports and after graduation continued to enjoy many years playing modified softball for various teams. He remained an ardent supporter of Marysville High School sports; watching his kids and then helping to coach softball and running the clock for basketball games. He found immense joy in time spent with his family; he had fond memories of growing up playing with his cousins and relished his role as papa. Rick loved camping, playing cards, exploring on his cart, and was king of karaoke channeling Johnny Cash at any opportunity. Known for his sense of humor and quick wit, he took great pride in making people laugh.
Rick is survived and missed by his wife of 37 years, Bev; and his children, Tracy (Craig) Bucko, Tom (Rose) Hija, Kerri (Kevin) Christofferson, and Michelle Klieman. Forever cherished and remembered by his eight grandchildren, Morgan, Nicklas, Emily, Jackson, Sydnee, Ethan, Nolan, and Claire, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 25th at 11:00 a.m. at Young Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, China Twp. Interment will follow at Riverlawn Cemetery, Marysville. Visiting hours will be Thursday, April 24th from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to service.
