I had the honor of working closely with Mel over the past couple of months as he strived to maintain his Independence. I always looked forward to my visits with Mel and Dorie. We talked in depth about world events and politics. But our best conversations were those about family. As a young family man I valued the 60 years of married experience Mel and Dorie were able to share with me. They had a way of shining a light on what really matters in life, Love. Love for each other, Love for their children, and Love for their fellow man/woman. "And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them." - 1 John 4:16. Mel and Dorie lived/live in Love and by extension God lived/lives in them.
I will always remember Mel's smile. Upon my arrival I was greeted with it, throughout our sessions it remained and as I walked out the door it continued to stay strong and vibrant. That smile always brought a peace/calm to my day because it was a reminder of the love God has for us all.
Mel will be missed, but if we attempt to carry ourselves as he carried himself then we will most certainly be standing alongside him in heaven when God calls us home.
I’ve known Mel “Tex” since we were kids, went to the same Church in Casco” St. James” from kids on up.
As we grew up and got older, we got into cars, Mel had a love affair with Mercury’s, always spotless. Yes, Mel was an avid snowmobiler, Mel, Dorie, Virginia and myself along with some other friends snowmobiled across many miles together in the UP. Yes Mel like you said at Perch Point a couple of yrs. ago, you know Arch. you and I are the only ones left from the old gang, I guess now that leaves only me. We will meet again someday.
