Marion Jane McKellar's Obituary
Marion Jane McKellar (age 97) passed peacefully on November 28, 2024.
She was born on May 6,1927 to A. Norman and Louise Tesch in Fair Haven, Michigan. She married Gerald McKellar on May 1, 1948 until his passing in 2009. Together they raised three children
Marion had various employment experiences. She put together the landing barges for Chris Craft during World War II. She was a bookkeeper at Miller’s Department Store for over 30 years and was an accomplished seamstress as well. Marion was a member of the Interfaith Choir for many years. She was actively involved in the Performing Arts, the Marine City Scholarship Fund, and both Band and Athletic Booster Clubs. She was an avid fan of the many sports her children, as well as her grandchildren, participated in. Marion was the matriarch of our family, and despite her failing health, she was able to stay in her own home due to the tremendous love and support of her children and grandchildren. At the very end, we entrusted her care to Hospice House. She went peacefully, after a hard-fought battle.
Marion was a member of the Marine City United Methodist Church for over 50 years until they closed, and was a member of St. John’s Church of Christ after that.
She is survived by her son David (Patty) McKellar, son-in-law Dennis VanTiem, grandchildren Ryan (Kelly) VanTiem, Jordan (Tatiana) VanTiem, Brett (Mandy) VanTiem, Chelsey (Jeff) Genovich, Gretchen (Mark) Voigt, DJ (Mickaela) McKellar, fifteen great grandchildren and beloved grand-daughter Beth (John) Klos whom she helped to raise, and thought of as her daughter as well.
Marion was preceded in death by so many. Her parents, her siblings Walter, Lawrence, Art and Janet. Her daughters Jerri Lynn McCollister and Deborah VanTiem, and grandchildren Holly and Christopher McCollister.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 4th at 11:00 am at Young Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in China Township. Interment to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Marine City. Visiting hours are Tuesday, December 3rd from 3:00-8:00.
