Leonard Carl Carnaghi's Obituary
Mr. Leonard Carl Carnaghi of Washington Township, MI, passed away on June 30, 2023, at the age of 82. He was born on February 23, 1941, in Detroit, MI, and was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Dorothy (Barbaglia). He is survived by his sisters, Theodora Mitchell and Barbara Shurmur.
Len was a loving husband of 59 years to his wife, Marilyn (Turner). Len and Marilyn were wed at St. Clare of Montefalco Catholic Church in Grosse Pointe Park on February 8, 1964. Marilyn was his pride and joy. Their life together was filled with love, family, friends, and adventures.
Len and Marilyn raised a family of five children: Mike and Lori (Bennett ), Robin and Tony Mason, Lisa and Matthew Brosky, Kristy and Tony Marasco, and Brian and Paula (Zajdel). He was the proud grandfather of 20 grandchildren: Rebecka (Jason), Shannon (Justin), Jake, Nick (Samantha), Samantha (Tony), Leah, Sophie, Buddy, Madison, Holden, Olivia, McKenna, AJ, Megan, Genna, Jaden, Marissa, Brendan, Cameron, and Joey. He was a loving great-grandfather to Jackson, Addison, Derek, Ava, and Julia.
Len was a man of great faith. He attended St. Clare of Montefalco grade school, continued his education at Austin Catholic Prep High School in Detroit. He went on to attend Villanova Catholic University in Pennsylvania and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
After graduation from Villanova, Len worked at Joseph P Carnaghi, Inc, for his father and uncles until 1975. He was a partner at CBM Construction in Grosse Pointe until the fall of 1983. It was then that he started his own firm, Leonard C. Carnaghi, Inc., which is still the family business today.
Len and Marilyn were members of the Old Club on Harsens Island for many years. They have many fond memories of fishing, boating, themed parties, 4th of July celebrations, and rendezvous. Len served as Commodore at the Old Club in 2002. Many of the special people in his life are friends he made at the Old Club.
Len enjoyed everything outdoors; hunting, fishing, boating, golfing, and attending his kids’ and grandkids’ sporting events. He loved spending time at the family hunting camp Wop-Pole Lodge, fishing on the Ruddy Duck, and at his winter home in Hobe Sound, Florida. Len was a world-class decoy carver, artist, and collector. These hobbies and talents brought many great friends into his life.
A Celebration of Life will be held July 19, 2023 In-State 9:00-10:00 am - mass at 10:00 am.
