I've known Len for over 25 years. He was a mentor on decoy collecting. I spent many hours in his basement. Talking decoys and way more about life. I had an opportunity to buy some hunting property. Having a young family and an expensive hobby of decoy collecting "didn't leave me much money to buy the land". Wanting the land, I decided to sell my entire collection. I offered my decoys to Len. He asked me why do I want to sell? I explained my situation to him and I gave him a price. He said he needed a day to think. A day later, he came to my house. Len handed me a check and said he was only taking my top 5 decoys. The check more then covered my down payment and allowed me to purchase the land. Happy to get the land, but still bummed I had to sell my favorite ducks. For the next few years, It bothered me that my decoys were gone and I avoided collecting. One day, I called Len to ask him how he was doing. He asked me about the property and If I still liked decoys. I said yes to both. Len then shocked me by saying "Come get your decoys Back" I've been saving them for you! He told me the same price - "look at it as a loan kid" I was over taken with emotion. Lens act of kindness was outstanding testament of his kindness that I will never forget! Now I have my decoys back, the property, and precious memory from a great man!
