Mrs. Joan E. McTevia's Obituary
Joan E. McTevia, age 52 peacefully passed away on November 26, 2014, surrounded by her family. She is survived by her loving husband John A. McTevia, dear daughters Jenna E. McTevia and Madison J. McTevia, along with her dog Lillian, collectively known as the “GILS”.
She was predeceased by her mother Betty A. Ropposch (1939 – 1983). Joan is the daughter of Jim (Marge) Ropposch, devoted sister of Nancy (Paul) Quesnelle, her dear brother Bill (Kelly) Ropposch and step brother Tom (Jennifer) Kopp and step sister Eva (Jorma) Kopp Cavaleri.
Joan is also survived by her loving Parent’s in-law James V. (Joan M.) McTevia, caring sister-in- law Anita (John) Dupes, and brother-in-law’s Michael (Mary) McTevia and James E. McTevia.
Joan was blessed with several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and so many dear friends whom she fondly considered family as well.
Joan grew up in Port Huron and enjoyed spending most of her time playing and teaching tennis at Sanborn Park. She played tennis for Port Huron Northern’ s tennis team and was awarded a four-year tennis scholarship to Central Michigan University where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in marketing.
For the past 10 years Joan worked as an office administrator for Dr. Douglas Baribeau, a Pediatric Dentist office located in Port Huron.
Joan was an avid sports enthusiast and loved the outdoors. She enjoyed skiing, playing tennis, running 5ks, paddle boarding, boating, and simply relaxing under the sun-filled blue skies. She was also a fabulous baker and made the holidays more memorable by baking her delicious homemade “strudel”. She also loved gardening and always displayed her home with a festive array of seasonal flowers, but mostly pink!
Joan was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2012 and chose to fight this battle by enjoying her life to the absolute fullest. Joan displayed a stellar example of what true faith, strength and courage can accomplish and projected that to all those who knew and loved her.

A visitation will take place at Young Funeral Home, Inc., located at: 4061 St. Clair Hwy., China, MI 48054 on Friday, December 5, 2014 between the hours of (2 and 4PM) and again from (6 to 9PM).
On Saturday, December 6, 2014 a Mass of Resurrection will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church located at: 415 North Sixth Street, St. Clair, MI 48079 at 12 noon with church visitation beginning at 11:30 AM up to the time of mass.
The Reverend Stephen C. Reckker (Joan’s Uncle) will officiate the mass of celebration with a private interment service to be held at Mount Hope Cemetery at a later date.
