Jan was my father Dennis’s favorite partner at the 5th precinct. I follow my father’s footsteps and started working at the fifth precinct in 1997. Jan was so good to me and he treated me like an adopt son. I used to sit with my father for hours, listening to all the stories when you guys were scout car partners. When my father passed away I was able to speak to you for a few and hoped we could catch up. Rest in peace Jan,

Jan was a dear friend of mine for 55 years. He is a mentor someone I always looked up to. Jan was also a proud American being a Navy man and Detroit cop, no one was more devoted to this country than Jan. He will be missed by all of my family. May God Bless his soul and give him eternal peace.
Jan will always be remembered in our hearts. My kids grew up with him as a strong and kind neighborhood father figure, who enjoyed the boys company, always showing interest in their exploits as they grew, and of course our common interests in everything 4th of July and things that go BOOM! What a fine example of a patriot and Christian.
