James R. DeVolder's Obituary
James R. DeVolder, age 86, of St. Clair, passed away July 4, 2018. He was born August 29, 1931 in Detroit to the late Oscar and Anna DeVolder. He proudly served his country during the Korean War with the U.S. Army earning the rank of sergeant. On October 15, 1955 he married Joan Langmesser in Detroit.
He was a police officer with the City of Detroit for 25 years retiring in 1980 as a detective sergeant. He earned many citations and commendations, including the Detroit Medal of Valor for saving 5 people from a burning house.
He was an avid antique car collector and enjoyed his time spent with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed his trip to Belgium in 2001 to see his family there.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years; Joan DeVolder, his sons; Steven (Johanne) DeVolder and Mark DeVolder. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Marisa, Joseph, and James, his brother; Oscar (Patricia) DeVolder, sisters; Dolores Jensen, Nancy (Gary) Herman, long time friend; Henry Tomczyk, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter in-law; Andrea DeVolder, sisters; Louise Measel and Martha Knokhart.
