James William Chopp, age 87, of Marine City, passed away November 8, 2024 with his loved ones by his side. James was born in Laurium, Michigan to the late Samuel and Agnes Chopp. On June 10, 1961 James married Terese Scholtes. She Read Obituary
Jim Chopp was a great mentor for me during my first year as an administrative intern. His easy-going manner and genuine caring for children was a blessing for the staff, students, and parents. I felt truly blessed to have a year to learn from him. I am thankful our paths crossed. I know he will be missed by many. May His family and friends remember the wonderful things he has done and the wisdom he has shared.

I taught at the Upper Elementary and enjoyed having Jim as my principal. He was easy to talk to and always had my back with parents. He also helped by having his wife edit an application for a summer grant to travel and study Shakespeare. This he did without my asking.
It was early on in my teaching career when I had the good fortune to teach art at Upper Elementary in Anchor Bay where Jim was my principal. He was so easy to talk to and always gave you great support in many ways. Education needs more Jim’s!

Mr. & Mrs. Chopp were a couple that helped change my life forever. They were both some of the kindest and most loving people I ever met.
Mr. Chopp was someone I spent a lot of time with, he loved his breakfast and I spent a lot of mornings talking over plans with him during a sit down at one of his favorite spots for breakfast. He is the reason I still put green peppers and onions in my hash browns to this day.
He always had great advice and a brilliant insight into life.
He loved his family and constantly talked about his kids and grand kids and all of their accomplishments.
I will always be thankful for our friendship and cherish those memories.
He is someone I will always think of when I need patience and understanding in life moving forward, as he was some one who was naturally gifted in those areas.
