George Joseph Joachim's Obituary
George Joseph Joachim passed away peacefully on November 10, 2023 with his family by his side. The "baby" of the family, he was born on January 1, 1949 to Edward (Ted) and Beatrice Beauvais Joachim. George graduated from Holy Cross High School in 1967, following which he attended St. Clair Community College. He transferred to Michigan State University, obtaining his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1971. He was a proud and loyal Spartan fan throughout his life. George went on to attend Detroit College of Law. After obtaining his law degree, he practiced as partner of the firm currently known as Kane, Clemons, Joachim and Downey, for his entire career. He retired in 2021.
George was a lover of history. He earned a Master's Degree in History from Oakland University in 1990.
His thesis on Great Lakes shipping during World War II was later published as a book, entitled "Iron Fleet," by the Wayne State University Press. He was a part time adjunct instructor of history at St. Clair County Community College for thirty years.
George served on the East China School Board from 1986 until 1993. He was a member of the St. Clair County Bar Association.
George was an easy going, "man of few words." He was kind, compassionate, and quietly charitable. He was known for his integrity, and dry sense of humor. Family and friends will miss his delicious baked goods, made with love and generously provided.
George married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Stilwell, in 1973. They were "boon companions" for over 50 years. He is survived by Sharon and his siblings, Don (June) Joachim, Jean Schweihofer, and Kitty Joachim (Jim) Sam, as well as brothers in-law, Don (Carol) Fiorani, Bob (Barb) Fiorani, Tim (Lenora) Fiorani and Doug (Theresa) Fiorani. He leaves behind many special nieces and nephews, as well as dear friends.
Visitors can pay their respects on Sunday, November 19, 2023 from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Marine City Scholarship Fund, Marine City Historical Museum or Blue Water Hospice.
