Fred Sochor's Obituary
Fred Sochor, 92, of Shelby Township, Michigan, went home to heaven on August 2, 2017. He died in Henry Ford Hospice, Utica, Michigan. He was born in Monaca, Pennsylvania on March 31, 1925. He worked as a farmer, machinist, and bereavement / family counselor. Fred became a charter member of Bethany Baptist Church in Clinton Township, Michigan when the church started in 1953. He lived his life as a devout Christian. He and his wife went on mission trips in Alaska in the 1990‘s. He also traveled to Israel and visited Czechoslovakia, where his grandparents and parents were born. He was fluent in the Slovak language.
He was married to Esther Palenkas from April 1, 1950 until her death on December 18, 2004. He and Esther had three children, Linda who died at age 1, Karen (Larry) Stockwell of East China, Michigan, and Timothy (Suzanne) Sochor of Helena, Ohio. Of 10 siblings, he is survived by Mary Sochor, Lydia Sochor, and Tom Sochor of Virginia. He is also survived by grandchildren Mark Achatz (Michigan), Matthew Achatz (Michigan), Philip Sochor (California), and Stephen Sochor (Maryland), and 3 great-grandchildren. Fred was briefly married to Eleanor Vile of Shelby Township, Michigan.
A celebration of his life will be held at Bethany Baptist Church on Monday, August 7, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. The body will lie in state one hour before the service.
