One of my favorite memories of him still makes me smile. When I was being teased by a bully, I told the kid my uncle was a cop and that if he didn’t stop, my uncle would come arrest him. Needless to say, the bullying stopped. When I told Uncle Eddie what I had said, he laughed and explained that’s not really how the badge works—he couldn’t just arrest someone for being mean. I told him I knew, but boys are dumb and it worked anyway. That just made him laugh even more.
It’s a memory I’ll always cherish, and one that reminds me of his kindness, his humor, and the way he made me feel safe.
When Ed was dating my sister Chris, they often spent Friday or Saturday night watching tv movies with me and my little sister Cathy. Ed loved to tell everyone that while we were watching a scary movie one time he reached over and touched my shoulder from behind, scaring me enough so I screamed. It was one of many playful and teasing moments we all loved to reminisce about. I will miss his smile, his teasing nature and the kindness he had for the family. RIP Eddie.
