Fr. Ritter hired me as youth minister at St. Mary's in 1998 and I was blessed to be on his staff. After his retirement he continued to host staff celebrations at his little home on the water. He loved swapping fishing stories with my husband, Bill. Last year I bumped into Fr. at the Village of East Harbor while taking the teens on a service project. He was so happy to see me and of course asked how the fishing was. He was a kind and generous soul and when my dad was in his last days Fr. Ritter showed up at the house with his stole and offered to hear dad's confession. We didn't even have to ask, he just showed up because he knew he was needed. I will always remember him as kind, generous, and gentle, with a big huge smile that I have been fortunate to bask in.
