My most sincere condolences to the family of Don Fahs. Don was a wonderful human being, a kind and generous man who treated everyone with dignity, respect, and honor... The few times we saw each other in recent years were spent discussing our mutual open heart surgeries and bypasses as well as our days at Diamond Crystal. Don was an excellent operator of every piece of equipment he worked with, always applying his German farmer mindset of attention to detail, dedication to ideals and principles, hard work and no matter how tough it gets,, to never give up -- to strive for excellence. Don had an outstanding sense of humor and loved to laugh, even when things were going bad. Don was the original operator of new equipment installed in '77 that put salt into a rectangular box and the machine was 'state of the art'- Don undertook this machine and all its related secondary equipment, taught himself its operation and fundamentals, and shortly afterward mastered this machinery.. As a skilled farmer, he also undertook all the maintenance of his equipment and performed it extremely well.. Even though I retired a couple months ago, during my 45 yrs at the plant I always told them about a man named Don Fahs who ran this equipment, who was the first and original operator of it, and will go down in the annals of this plant's history as the most highly skilled packaging operator this machinery and packaging line will ever have. A man who had so much pride in his job and how he cared for his equipment and kept it in immaculate condition. No one has ever even came close to being on the level of Don Fahs as an operator. I have worked on Don's equipment as an operator after he trained me in '77, and as a mechanic later in my career, and absolutely no one can match his caliber as an operator.. Don was truthful, honest, and an extremely hard worker. His traits of integrity, dignity, humility, and character are unmatched. He always was willing to help his coworkers, had an extreme amount of patience with people, but also stood up for his ideals and principles... Don's dedication and devotion to his job , his equipment, the plant, and the company were always noteworthy. He is a man committed to doing his very best, no matter the task.. Don Fahs made a difference at that plant. The machinery that Don operated and trained so many people on is still there today, and still producing product at a high volume, mainly because of Don Fahs, and the dedication he gave to his indepth training of people. I firmly believe that Don's skills as an operator and his mindset come from his German farmer ancestor's roots, just as it has been to all the Thueme's, Mugglebergs, Beier's, Weil's, and Kaufman's who have worked at that plant over the years - and who also , like Don, have given 110% every day .. It is a sad day in that we have lost a special person.....a man who surely made a difference .. Thank you Don, for everything ..
