Charles "Charlie" J. Klima's Obituary
“Charlie”, Charles John Klima, of East China Twp., passed away January 3, 2026 surrounded by family in his home of 50 years. He was 92 years old.
Born in Ohio on November 24, 1933 and as a young boy worked for several years milking cow for area farmers. He later left the farms and sailed the Great Lakes on the steam ships, where he mostly played the “Banjo”.
Charlie also did a stint in Las Vegas, working at casinos during the Rat Pack years. He then settled down in Marine City/East China in the early 60’s. He went on to work as a civilian at Selfridge Air Force Base, where he served for 26 years.
An active member of the community, he volunteered for the Old News Boys for many years until his health declined, forcing him to stop. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, #2784 of Fair Haven since 1965.
He was truly a “Good Time Charlie”, an avid fisherman, and a bit of a lead foot. He will be missed.
He is survived by his three sons; Joe, John and Jeff. Also surviving are his daughter in-law; Stephanie and granddaughter; Erica.
