Mr. William Van Peeren's Obituary
William Van Peeren, age 88, of Marine City, formerly of St. Clair Shores, passed away peacefully in his home following a courageous battle with cancer on August 3, 2014. He was born December 13, 1925 in Detroit.
William served with the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Master Machine Mate aboard the USS Siboney. He also served 2 years in the National Guard. William was a police officer in St. Clair Shores for 26 years. He was a 55 years Mason at the Jefferson Lodge in St. Clair Shores and a combined 51 year Shriner with both the Moslem Temple, Detroit and Azan Temple, Florida. He is a Past Potentate of the Azan Temple. He participated with many units including Motor Corp, Arabian Horse Troop with Moslem Temple and Satellites and Dune Buggy’s with Azan. He also served on the Board of Governors with the Shrine Hospital, Tampa.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Pauline Van Peeren, 12 children; Lyle (Nancy) Van Peeren, William Van Peeren Jr., David (Delores) Van Peeren, Gail (David) Wyatt, Donald Van Peeren, Rebecca (Warren) Reeves, Joanne Scavone, Sharon (Dennis) Blankenship, Sue (Mike) Hetu, Arlena (Randy) Craven, Ronald (Heidi) Campbell, Denise (Michael) Buckley, 28 grandchildren, including grandson and friend David Buckley, 37 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, sisters; Virginia Heisner and Lena Newitt, brothers in law; Earle (Elaine) Liss and James Liss and sister in law; Gloria Van Peeren. He was preceded in death by parents; Arie and Lena Van Peeren, brother; Arie Van Peeren, sisters; Bertha Lewis and Marie Newell and grandchildren; Sean Albertson and Jennifer Scavone.
Funeral services will be Saturday August 9th at 11 a.m. at Young Funeral Home, East China Twp. Visiting hours are Friday 3-9 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. and Saturday 10-11 am at the funeral home prior to service. Memorials are suggested to Blue Water Hospice. www.youngfuneralservices.com
