William James Cullen's Obituary
William James Cullen, age 97, of Marine City, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026 with his family by his side. He was born on December 28, 1928 to the late Francis and Irene Cullen. Bill married Abbie Sherlock in 1951, who preceded him in death on October 11, 2000. He married Joan Margaret Berry in January 26, 2002. Bill was a graduate of Catholic Central High School, class of 1946. Following high school, he completed trade school and went on to work as a Pipefitter for Local 636 Union. He was a dedicated employee working over 45 years, retiring at age 65. Bill proudly served his country in the National Guard for 3 years. He was a man of faith, Bill was an active parishioner at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Our Lady on the River Parish, Marine City. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus Marine City Council 856, as well as the Right to Life Michigan. Bill took pride in providing for his family. In his younger years, he enjoyed golfing. As time passed on, he welcomed the challenges of repairing and fixing up anything that needed to be worked on. His selflessness, devotion, and generous soul will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Joan; children, Peggy (Scott) Stinnet, Mary (Ralph) Freden, Patricia Strieter, William Cullen, John (Terri) Cullen, Eileen (Scott) Bachler, Patrick Cullen, Peter (Nisi) Cullen, Jim (Karen) Berry, Marianne (Mike) Stann, Susan Carter-O’Bryan, John (Stephanie) Berry; grandchildren; Scott, Shannon, Kevin, Bridget, John, Thomas, Kathleen, Daniel, Sean, Mary Kate, Maggie, Michael, Joseph, Abbie, Olivia, Sarah, Shannon, Anna, Thomia, Michelle, Jessica, Kimberly, Jennifer; 32 great grandchildren; sister, Catherine Belcher, as well as several nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Catherine Anne Colvin; daughter in law, Amelia Cullen, as well as 7 brothers and sisters.
A funeral mass will take place Saturday, February 14, 2026 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Marine City. Visiting hours will be Friday, February 13 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
