Mr. Wilfred Osterland's Obituary
Wilfred Osterland, age 91, of China Twp., died January 30, 2014. He was born April 24, 1922 in Marine City to the late William and Alice Osterland.
On September 1, 1945 Wilfred married Jeanette Distelrath in St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Clair. Wilfred was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Our Lady on the River Parish and Knights of Columbus #2251, St. Clair Council. For 50 years he kept his farming community going from his welding shop at the family home. Building, repairing, or tinkering he was an instrumental partner to his farmers.
He was employed with the Diamond Crystal Salt Co., St. Clair for 40 years.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years Jeanette Osterland, children, Richard (Kay) Osterland, Robert (Joy) Osterland, Larry (Pam) Osterland, Jerry (Mary) Osterland, Raymond Osterland, Anne (Hale) Walker and Mary Jo (Alan) MacDonald, 21 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, siblings, Leslie (Barbara) Osterland, Gerald Osterland, William (Lynette) Osterland, Ruth Fessenden, Donald Osterland and Bernard (Tracy) Osterland, brothers in law and sisters in law, Ray Keller, Ann Distelrath, Margaret and Pat Patterson and Justine Osterland and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Melvin, Edmund and Elmer Osterland and sister Dorothy Endres.
Funeral services will begin Monday February 3rd at 10:15 a.m. Young Funeral Home, China Twp. with the funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Our Lady on the River Parish, Marine City. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, St. Clair. Visiting hours are Saturday 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. rosary.
