Wendell "Gar" Manchester's Obituary
Wendell “Gar” Manchester, age 85, of East China Twp., passed away peacefully, surrounded by his wife of nearly 66 years and his children on February 14, 2017. He was born June 24, 1931 to the late Rev. Vernor and Agnes Manchester. On February 24, 1951 Wendell married Marian Lenk.
Gar worked for the National Cash Register Company for 37 years and also had his real estate license since 1955. He was a life member of the Masonic Lodge and a member of the Scottish Rite. He and his wife attended the First United Methodist Church, St. Clair. Gar had a unique hobby of restoring antique cash registers, but his time spent with his family, who he loved dearly, was what he cherished most.
He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 66 years, Marian Manchester; loving children, Marla (Tom) Sinchak of Connecticut, Wendy (Charlie) Harder of St. Clair and Wayne (Claudine) Manchester of Grosse Pointe; cherished grandchildren, Ryan (Michelle) Harder, Brad and Lindsay Harder, Jack, Brian and Thomas Sinchak and Alex and Gianna Manchester; great grandchildren, Lauren and Isaac Harder; sisters, Gladys Gifford and Verna Wright; brother, David (Shirley) Manchester; brothers in law, Gary (Jane) Lenk and Dennis (Sally) Lenk and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Ross Manchester and sister, Grace Roger.
Funeral services will be held Sunday February 19th, at 12:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, St. Clair. Visiting hours are Saturday 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. A Masonic Service will be held Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
