W.B. "Bernie" Chapman's Obituary
W.B. “Bernie” Chapman, age 88, of St. Clair, peacefully passed away, with his family by his side on November 12, 2017. He was born December 1, 1928 in Mt. Clemens, on the Chapman family farm, to the late Emory and Mabel Chapman. On April 18, 1952, Bernie married Veta Douthit in Detroit.
Bernie served his country during the Korean Conflict as a Corporal with the U.S. Army. He owned and operated St. Clair Plumbing and Heating for 52 years. Bernie was past president of the St. Clair Rotary and received recognition as a Paul Harris Fellow for his community service. He also was a member of the First United Methodist Church, St. Clair, serving on any and every committee that needed his help. Bernie was a member of the Model T Ford Club International and the Model T Ford Club of America. He loved nothing more than touring the United States behind the wheel of his Model T with Veta. He affectionately named his Model T “Marvin”. Bernie’s knack and knowledge of fixing everything for his family earned him the nick name of “MacGyver”. Bernie’s family was everything to him.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Veta Chapman; children, Steven Chapman, Patricia (Larry) Biscarner, Lynn (George) Wood, Marla (Joe) Zammitta, Annette Chapman and Mike Chapman; grandchildren, Jamie Lee (Mike) Spears, Kyle Chapman, Hannah Patterson, Shannon (Chris) Fryer, Brenton (Ashton) Biscarner, Sean (Kelly) Hunt, Kelly (Shawn) Gross, Cady Zammitta, Jake Zammitta and Heather (Clayton) Royal; great grandchildren, Landen, Mason and Carsen Spears, Avery and Reade Patterson, Braelyn and Laken Gross, Aubrey Hunt, Greyson and Sterling Fryer and Brecken Biscarner and sister, Phyllis Haase. He was preceded in death by siblings, Ralph and Lloyd Chapman, Helen Wuschack and Dorothy Chapman.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday December 2nd at 11:00 a.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp., with visitation one hour prior to service. Following the service a reception will be held at Pine Shores Golf Course, St. Clair where family and friends will continue to celebrate and honor Bernie's life.
