Vito "Bill" Bica's Obituary
Vito “Bill” Bica, age 88, of East China, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on August 1, 2026.
He was born in Detroit on November 22, 1937 to the late Francesco and Fara Bica. He married Marie Wilk on October 3, 1964 in Detroit. She preceded him in death on January 5, 2023.
He received an Associate Degree in Law Enforcement and Protection from Mercy College of Detroit.Vito served as a Detroit Police officer in the 12th Precinct for over 25 years. He also worked in the Crime Prevention Unit. Prior to that he also proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.
He belonged to Our Lady on the River Parish, Holy Cross Catholic Church and the American Legion. In his younger years he was a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 148 and was a member of the Men’s Club at St. Matthew Catholic School in Detroit and Bishop Gallagher High School.
Vito and Marie took their children hiking and camping throughout the United States and he cherished those memories with them. Even after their children pursued their own lives, Vito and Marie continued with their love of travel, checking items off of their bucket list. Vito loved to share stories of all of their travels with his family and friends. He could take you just about anywhere in the US without a map! When not traveling, he enjoyed bowling, fishing, and playing all types of card and board games while partaking in an ice cold Stroh’s.
His grandchildren meant the world to him and he went to all of their sporting events, dance recitals, band concerts and theater events.
After Marie’s passing he moved to Mallard’s Landing where he was able to join in on all of the activities and make new friends.
He is survived by his children; Frank (Katy) Bica, Annemarie (Joe) McLeod and Diana (Stephanie) Bica.
He is also survived by his grandchildren; Andrew, Alex, Allison, Liam, Camille, Duncan and Cullen, along with his sister; Mary Bossuyt.
He was preceded in death by his son; Joseph Bica, step-father; Antonino Simonti and brother in-law; Michael Bossuyt.
Mass of Resurrection will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7 at Our Lady on the River Parish, Holy Cross Catholic Church, Marine City. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Thursday, August 6 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. and at church from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. prior to mass. Rosary will be Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
