Verna Moultrie's Obituary
Verna Moultrie (nee Mayfield), of East China, Michigan, formerly of East Pointe, Michigan passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025 with her family by her side. She was born May 15, 1932 to George and Hannah Mayfield in Arnold, Nottingham, England.
George passed of TB at a young age; her mother remarried and she had a wonderful step-father, Jim Warner.
Verna met Bob Moultrie at Wicksteed Park in England while he was serving with the USAF. She traveled on the ship The Queen Elizabeth and came to Michigan to marry Bob in Nov. 1954. They had their 70th anniversary in Dec. 2024.
Verna earned her Master's degree at Wayne State University. She was a teacher at St. Clair Shores Lakeview High School then went on to work for the IRS as a Research Specialist.
She retired to travel with Bob, both in the US and Europe. She was an avid reader, loved to garden and enjoyed art and history.
Her beloved children are Jim (Rose), Dale (Cheryl) and Sharon (Bob) McLaren. Her six grandchildren are Jason (Katie), Danielle (Dan) English, Sarah (Nick Annis), Robert (Paige) McLaren, Joshua (Elisa) and Lindsay (Nic) Dragna. She was also blessed with 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband Bob and her children, Verna is survived by her brother David Warner, sister-in-law Virginia, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by sisters Norma (Ron) Fell, Kathleen (Brian) Cunningham and sister-in-law Anna Warner. She will be reunited with her dearest friends Pam Coyne from Wigan, England and Billie Vogl in the great unknown.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Kids in Distress Services, Inc. or Blue Water Hospice.
Private family services will be held. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Young Funeral Home, China Twp.
