Vera Hattie Vogel's Obituary
Vera Hattie Vogel, 103, of East China passed away peacefully on Monday, August 29, 2022 after a short illness. Vera was born December 5, 1918 to Edward and Laura (Kaufman) Thueme. Her baptism and confirmation were at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Casco Township. She married Arthur Vogel on November 4, 1939, also at St. Paul’s.
Vera worked as a nanny in St. Clair as a teenager which limited her education. She never stopped expanding her mind her entire life. Her memory was amazing as so many can attest. She lived a long time and said goodbye to so many friends and family. She would say her life was wonderful and we would say she did it well.
Vera lived for over 60 years in a house that she and Art built in Marine City. She was a long-time active member of St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Marine City where she worked on many church dinners. She was especially famous for her dinner rolls. She enjoyed having a large vegetable garden and also grew many beautiful flowers both inside and outside her home.
She is survived by her 3 sons and daughters-in-law; Robert and Sandra, Gerald and Sally, and Delbert and Carol. Her grandchildren Beth (Edgar) Gaytan, Robert Vogel, Jr., Dana Richardson, Sara (Garth) Crago, Johanna (Nate) Larch, Steven (Dawn) Vogel and David (Erin) Vogel and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur, siblings Melvin, Helen and Roy, brothers and sisters-in-law Nellie Rahn, Lucille Foster, Gerald Vogel, Betty Klobuchar and grandson-in-law Rob Richardson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in St. Clair or St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Marine City. Cremation has taken place and in accordance with her wishes there will be no visitation. A private immediate family service will be held at a later date. Urn interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Marine City.
