Sylvia Josephine Derylo's Obituary
Sylvia Josephine Derylo, 83 of St. Clair Township passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025. Sylvia was the daughter of John Walter Kujawa and Josephine Gozdzewski. Sylvia was born on May 13, 1942 at 2:25 AM at the Grace Hospital in Detroit Michigan. Sylvia’s father passed away at the age of 26 when she was 6 years old.
She attended grade school in Detroit and Cass Technical School where she was a member of the Marching band. Upon completion of her high school requirements, she attended a training program sponsored by the IBM Corporation where she learned about keypunching and entering data into computers. She was hired by General Motors and started on her career at Fisher Body Plant 21. After one year, she was promoted and transferred to Chevrolet Head Office which was located in the General Motors building. In the following years, she continued with General Motors at various location within the Technical Center located in Warren, Michigan and ended her working career as a Senior Security Analyst.
Sylvia was a very active individual who liked to golf, bowl and ride her horse that she kept at a ranch in Marine City as well as two Schnauzers that she trained and would enter into dog shows. In some, she took first place honors.
In 1961, she met Andrew Derylo who she worked with at her first job with General Motors at a business meeting. It had been 21 years since they had seen each other. They had lunch together, started seeing each other, fell in love, married in 1993 and retired in 1994. She spent the next 32 years in retirement doing what retirees do.
Sylvia is survived by her loving husband Andrew, daughter Mary Worobec (Michael), her grandchildren Briana (Jake) Campbell and Cierra, two great grandchildren Landyn and Ava as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank all the loving caregivers at Sandalwood Creek for their love and support for Sylvia.
