Stanley Wiinikainen's Obituary
Paul Stanley (Stan) Wiinikainen passed away March 27, 2017 at Troy Beaumont Hospital. He was born on June 6, 1926 to Otto and Sophie (Lilly) Wiinikainen. He married Joyce TenEyck November 20,1946.
He worked for Marine City High School for 32 years as a teacher, coach, vice principal, and athletic director. He loved his family, traveling, camping, and sports, especially football. He played college basketball and football at Northern Michigan University and received his master's degree from the University of Michigan, where he loved attending football games. He was an avid golfer until his last few years, when he was overcome by Parkinson's Disease.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce, and his four daughters: Janis (Fred) Taylor, Diana (Glenn) Rittenger, Sue (Brian) Hayes and Paula (Greg) VanHouten; ten grandchildren; Sophie (Joe) Kaiser, Ian (Rachel) and Zack Taylor, Marshal and Kalee Rittenger, Sanna, Jesse and Riley Hayes, Lucas and Jacob VanHouten and two great grand-daughters; Nora Kaiser and Brooke Taylor.
He was loved and will be missed.
In honor of Stan memorials are suggested to the Marine City Scholarship Foundation. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ, 527 North William Road, Marine City. MI 48039. Arrangements by Young Funeral Home www.youngcolonial.com
