Shirley Olsen's Obituary
Shirley Olsen, age 91, of St. Clair, Michigan, died Friday May 31, 2024. She was born January 20, 1933 in Linwood, Michigan to the late Curtis and Bertha (Ballor) Brissette.
Shirley worked with her husband Bill in the family business “The Silver Palace Bar” in Essexville, Michigan for several years. Around 1970 Shirley opened, with a partner, Bay Travel in Bay City, Michigan. She organized trips for customers often going along as a tour guide. While still working at the travel agency, she worked as a buyer at Lady Fords and Town and Country clothing stores in Bay City. Shirley often traveled to New York and Chicago to purchase merchandise.
After retiring, Shirley moved to Gladwin County to live near her son. When he moved to St. Clair, Shirley followed.
Shirley worked at Hayes in St. Clair for several years where she enjoyed finding just the right outfit for her customers often going to her customer’s home with clothing they may like. She then went on to work at Sperry Department store in Port Huron.
Shirley was the oldest of five children. She was preceded in death by Curtis Brissette, Gary (Robin) Brissette and Marlene Tulk.
She is survived by her two sons, William (Diane) Karner and Michael (Debbie) Karner; four grandchildren, Billy (Tammy) Karner, Bradley Karner, Melissa (Larry) Mitchell and Laura Karner; two great grandchildren, Nicholas Karner and Alexander Karner and sister, Beverly Brissette.
The family would like to thank the Medical Team at Lake Huron Woods, Fort Gratiot and Jennifer and her staff at Visions, St. Clair for their wonderful care of mom.
