Sherwood D. "Doug" Schunck's Obituary
Sherwood D. (Doug) Schunck, age 84, of China Township, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2023. He was born on September 8, 1939 in Detroit to the late Eldon Schunck and Ruth Faulkner.
He was a graduate of Utica High School. Following high school, Doug was employed by various companies along with starting a few of his own businesses including a gas station and autobody shop before he started his career at Ford Motor Company where he retired in 2007. Doug married the love of his life, Sandra (Sandy) VanHevel in Utica on July 29, 1961.
He enjoyed new adventures, reading, working on cars and boats with his "son", Ed Smith, and living his life as an entrepreneur.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sandy Schunck; his three daughters, Debbie (Bob) Mack, Cheryl (Greg) Gostiaux, and Jessica Schunck. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Sheri (Ron) Mitchell, Vanessa (Jake) Fraley, Michael (Ann Marie) Mack, Steve (Kara) Mack, Colette (Eric) Helmbrecht; his brother Charlie (Carole) Schunck, sister Judy (Bill) Trim, sister Sharon (Tim) Schoenherr along with many in-laws, nieces and nephews and many, many great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his grandson Robert Mack and granddaughter Melissa Mack.
There will be no funeral service. A celebration of life memorial service details will be announced at a later date. Cremation arrangements by Young Funeral Home, China Twp.
