Mr. Shawn C. Burr's Obituary
Shawn C. Burr, age 47, of St. Clair, died August 5, 2013. He was a loving and devoted husband and best friend for 24 years to Amanda-Jane Freeman-Burr. Proud father of Madison and Maison, who were the center of his world and his most proud accomplishment. He will always be their biggest supporter. Son of Fran and the late Gerry Burr, special son in law of "Nannie and Gramps" Valerie and Peter Freeman, brother of Kelly (Paul) Gorjup and their children Natalie and Rachel. Best friend of Brad, Kim, Lauren and Aaron Drury. He also survived by many other family and friends.
Shawn was drafted in 1984 by the Detroit Red Wings and played 11 of 16 seasons with the Red Wings retiring in 2000. He was an active and passionate member of the Detroit Red Wings Alumni. The Shawn Burr Foundation was founded on Shawn's birthday, July 1, 2000. The original purpose was to raise funds for children and those less fortunate. However, in February, 2011 the foundation took on a new vision and focus after Shawn's diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Cremation has taken place and a private family memorial service will be conducted.
