Sally Lozen's Obituary
Sally Ann (Gibson) Lozen, passed away on November 27, 2009, in her home surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on September 4, 1936 to Janet (Gore) and J. Thomas Gibson in St. Clair.
Sally was raised on Harsens Island and attended the red brick school with five other friends. She graduated from Algonac High School and attended Albion College. She received her Associates degree from St. Clair County Community College. She was the Librarian at Ira Township for 17 years and retired in 1994.
Sally was involved in many organizations during her 73 years. She was a member of Algonac High School Marching Band, swam on the synchronized swim team at Albion College, belonged to the Jaycee Auxiliary, Co-District Leader of Girl Scouts, Red Hat Ladies, Algonac Comminity School committee member, Harsens Island St. Clair Flats Assoc. and Algonac-Clay Historical Society. She loved to read and enjoyed sharing her love of books with everyone. Sally turned her passion of reading into becoming an avid genealogist. She recently joined a writing group in Englewood, Florida where she wrote her "Life Stories." She learned to play Bridge and enjoyed her lady bridge friends and their adventures. Sally and her husband Gerald loved to travel to Florida and officially became "snowbirds" in the 90's. She attended many sporting events of her grandchildren. Although, she was a true Muskrat, her love for her grandchildren turned her into a Mariner and then a Saint fan. Her grandchildren were the light of her life and she loved to brag about them every chance she got.
On May 5, 1956, she married Gerald Lozen of Algonac at St. Mark's Church, Harsens Island. they resided in Algonac where they raised their children. She has three children Marybeth (Tom) Schindler, Stephen, and Michael (Angie) Lozen. she cherished her grandchildren, Keri and Tyler Lozen and TJ and Matt Schindler. Sally is also survived by her brother, J. Thomas (Jan) Gibson, of Hoffman Estates, Illinois along with several nieces and nephews.
Her son, Stephen, preceded her in death along with her parents Janet and J. Thomas Gibson, and her sister Mary E. Barker.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Wednesday December 2, 2009 at 12:00 noon at Young Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, China Twp. The family will receive visitors from 10:30 to 12:00 noon Wednesday prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Algonac-Clay Historical Society, Readers Cove Harsens Island, Reach to Recovery, or the Algonac Community School Enrichment Fund.
