Rose Helen Sexton (Pascoe)'s Obituary
Rose Helen Sexton (Pascoe), age 72, of St. Clair, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on May 9th, 2024. She was born in Detroit on March 29, 1952 to the late James Ferris and Rose Helen Pascoe. For those that were close to Rose also knew her as Dolly, a nickname given to her at a young age. Being born premature, and weighing 2 pounds, her mother used to dress her in doll clothes because all the new born baby clothes were too big.
Rose was a graduate from St. Clair High School in the 70s. Soon after graduating, she married her high school sweetheart, Paul Joseph Shurkey, who preceded her in death on March 17, 2007. Rose obtained her cosmetology license and enjoyed a career in the beauty industry as a stylist until she became a mother of three. She enjoyed cooking, baking. When she was not in the kitchen, Rose was a master seamstress. She was a proud member of AA for 34 years. Sponsoring and assisting dozens of people battling addiction. Later in life, she liked going on casino trips with her girlfriends. Above all, Rose had a heart for helping people. A truly selfless woman who put others needs before her own. Rose’s passing will leave a void in the heart of everyone who knew her. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband, David E. Sexton; children, James P. Shurkey, Michael A. Shurkey, Rose (Cedric Jr.) Queener; step children, John D. Sexton, Jennifer L. Sexton’ grandchildren, Karly Krokker, Tabitha (Ryan) Wilson, Jared Shurkey, Jacob Queener, Sadie (Anthony) Lewis, Crista Shurkey, Alexander Shurkey, Isaac Shurkey, Conner Shurkey; step grandchildren, Mason and Dylan Sexton; great grandchildren, Reid, Willow, Ivy, Aspen, Michael; siblings, Howard (Nancy) Pascoe, Nancy Pascoe; sisters-in-law, Vera Pascoe, Nancy Pascoe, Jackie Pascoe, as well as several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her brothers, James, William, and Larry Pascoe.
A funeral service will be on Thursday, May 16th at 10:00 a.m. at Young Funeral Home. Visiting hours will be Wednesday, May 15th from 3:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. as well as from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. prior to the service on Thursday. Memorials are suggested to the wishes of the family.
