Ronald E. Schalk's Obituary
On November 17, 2025 at 9:30 p.m., the world lost a bright light and heaven gained an angel when Ronald E. Schalk, otherwise known as “Mr. Wonderful”, passed from this life to the next at the age of 90.
Ron served in the Army in his early years then went on to gain his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Wayne State University. He taught high school and middle school in the Clintondale School District for more than thirty years. During his retirement, he wrote editorials for the local St. Clair town newspaper, played golf whenever he could, and spent special time with his wife and family, always being the prankster, jokester and simply “Mr. Wonderful”.
Ron was a devoted family man caring for his wife of 62 years, driving his daughter to all her dance lessons and attending every recital, always “fixing” everything whether it was a car exhaust system of welded Campbell soup cans, paneling a basement, building a doll house, saving the day because your brakes failed on your car, playing basketball in the backyard, being “Uncle Rop-o-Nop” or just keeping the peace in his household…all with a joke or giggle.
Ron leaves behind his wife, Donna Schalk, daughter Heather (Kimley) Schalk, nieces Kimberly (Steve) Hoenie, Tiffany Stano, Holly (Thomas) Price, Kelly (Michael) Barkume, and brother-in-law, Arthur (Joanne) Decker. He also leaves behind several great nieces and nephews, as well as, great, great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Alice (George) Schalk, sister and brother-in-law Sandra (Donald) Caudill and sister-in-law, Phyllis Anne Hagerman.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 15 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Clair. Private family inurnment will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
