Mr. Robert "Bob" Younkins' Obituary
Robert G. "Bob" Younkins, age 79, of East China Twp., died peacefully Friday, November 28 surrounded by his favorite girls; his wife Betty, sister Thresea, and daughters; Teanne, Andrea, and Cammy.
He was born on April 25, 1935 to the late Floyd and Doris Younkins in River Rouge, MI.He was a life long Marine City resident. He graduated from Marine City High School and then served in the U.S. Army until 1957.
He married Betty Stephenson on February 27, 1960 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Marine City.
After an honorable discharge, he followed in his late father's footsteps and sailed the Great Lakes for Interlake Steamship Company. He then left his sailing career to be home with his family.
He went on to work for the Detroit Edison at the St. Clair Power Plant and retired in 1995 after 29 years of service.
He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, teaching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren to swim, playing cards. He also coached his daughter's softball teams with Marine City Little League for many years.
He was an avid duck hunter, fisherman, and golfer. He was also a member of the Marine City Knights of Columbus, 856 and enjoyed playing Santa Claus for the K of C Christmas parties and for family and friends.
In addition to his wife of 54 years Betty Youkins, he is also survived by his daughters; Teanne (Kurt) Lindow, Andrea Younkins, and Cammy Haugh (Mike Gryka), grandchildren; Joe Haugh, Jenny Haugh (Greg Cates), and Olivia Obiwuru, great-grandchildren; Jacob Haugh and Joslyn Cates.
Also survived by sisters; Thresea (Walt) Yielding and Donna Kongsvik, brother; Dennis (Cindy) Allen.
He was preceded in death by his sister; Nadine Kramer.
Cremation has taken place and a funeral mass will be Friday December 12th at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Our Lady on the River Parish, Marine City. The family will receive visitors from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the church prior to mass. Memorials may be given to the donor's choice. Arrangements by Young Funeral Home, China Twp.
