Robert A. Mayhew's Obituary
Robert A. Mayhew, 84, of Lexington, and formerly of St. Clair, walked into the arms of Jesus on April 16, 2025.
Bob was born on April 15, 1941, in St. Clair, Michigan, to Ralph and Anna Mayhew. On August 29, 1969, he married the love of his life, Lynn Zacharias, in St. Clair. Bob spent his career at Diamond Crystal Salt Co., where he worked faithfully until his retirement. Bob was a man who loved working with his hands – whether tending to his garden, meticulously caring for his yard, or remodeling homes. He took pride in fixing up both his family home and the rental properties he and Lynn owned in St. Clair. There was always a project underway, and Bob approached each with determination.
Afterward, he and Lynn moved to Lexington to enjoy the peace and beauty of Lake Huron, spending winters in Lake Wales, Florida, where they remained active and strengthened life-long friendships.
Known for a booming voice, wide smile, and welcoming nature, Bob never met a stranger. He could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere, and he had a gift for making others feel seen and heard.
But above all else, Bob loved the Lord. His faith was the cornerstone of his life. He lived as a good and faithful servant, always striving to walk in the light of Christ and share God’s word with those around him. Anyone who worshiped with him will remember his enthusiastic “Amen!” – often the first and the loudest – resounding through the church with joy and conviction.
Bob’s deepest pride was his family. He cherished Lynn from the moment they met, and his love for her only deepened as they grew older. Together, they built a warm and loving home where they raised their three children, Tracy (late Richard) Mathieu of Waterford, Kimberly Mayhew of Sandusky and Mark (Aubree) Mayhew of Fort Gratiot, which they created a lifetime of memories.
In his later years he was immensely proud of his grandchildren, who were his greatest source of pride and his joy; Addison Emig, Devin Mayhew, Zachary Mayhew, Courtney and Isaiah Mathieu and Eli and Aria Mayhew. He passed on a strong faith and work ethic to all of them – values they carry with them today. He delighted in sharing stories about his grandchildren’s accomplishments, always eager to brag about each one of them to anyone who would listen. His love for them was endless, and they were truly the light of his life. Bob will also be missed by a host of family and life-long dear friends.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, April 27th at 1:30 p.m. at Croswell Wesleyan Church, 200 West Peck Rd., Croswell, MI 48422. A luncheon at the church will follow immediately after the service. A private urn interment in Hillside Cemetery, St. Clair will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Croswell Wesleyan Church. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Young Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, China Twp. To leave a message of comfort visit www.youngcolonial.com
