Mr. Robert H. Kapanka's Obituary
Robert H. Kapanka, age 84, of St. Clair, died December 15, 2014. He was born July 29, 1930 in Port Huron. Bob served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. On January 3, 1953 he married Rita Uppleger in St. Clair. Bob worked for the Detroit Edison for 44 years and retired as a supervisor. He was a longtime member of St. John’s UCC in Port Huron. Bob enjoyed his years served as a Boy Scout leader for Troops 294 and 298. Before the county had a dive team Bob would scuba dive for the St. Clair County Sheriff Dept. He loved his time spent with family and friends in the Thumb Bums Camping Group and also was an avid deer and small game hunter.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rita Kapanka, children; Keith (Tammie) Kapanka, Paula (Don) Wade, Judy (Bruce) DeFrane, Janet (Herb) Robbins, Carl (Janine) Kapanka and Sally (Richard) Hamilton, grandchildren; Angie, Melanie, Allison, Chris, Jennifer, Katie, David, Brad (Nikki), Hayden, Katie, Tiffiany (Tony), MacKenzie and Paige, great grandchildren; Conner, Marshall, Rose and Cora, a brother; Roy (Nancy) Kapanka and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter; Stephanie Wade and siblings; Betty (Charlton) Campbell, Jack (Donna) Kapanka and Don (Beverly) Kapanka.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday December 19th at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s UCC, 710 Pine St. Port Huron. Visitation hours are Thursday 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. and Friday 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church prior to service.
