Robert Frank Beattie's Obituary
Robert Frank Beattie, age 84, of Marine City, died unexpectedly August 14, 2023. He was born August 31, 1938 in Clare, Michigan to the late James and Alta Beattie.
Bob married Janice Ann Kazor on October 17, 1959 in Holy Cross Catholic Church, Marine City and they enjoyed 62 years of marriage. Janice predeceased Bob on May 11, 2022.
Following high school, Bob began his working career at Marine Bank and Trust as a teller and eventually, through years of dedication and hard work, became bank President. He concluded his career with Citizens Bank. Bob always enjoyed local residents sharing stories about receiving their first loan from him.
Bob’s community involvement and contributions were many. He served many years on the East China School Board, serving as Board President for the majority of those years. He also served on RESA School Board and River District Hospital Board and was a former Mayor of Marine City. Bob was one of the founding members of the Marine City Scholarship Foundation. He loved sports and was a high school referee for 50 years in football and 40 years in baseketball. Bob was also an avid Detroit Red Wings fan and a proud season ticket holder for many years.
Bob loved his home on the river and how the view each day was better than the last. He was an avid fisherman, golfer and loved everything Marine City.
Above all else, Bob was most proud of his family. His four daughters, who he affectionately referred to as his princesses, his 16 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Bob cherished his time with his family and looked forward to their annual family trips. A family trip to Scotland in 2017 was one of his favorite’s. He was so involved with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, attending all their sporting events and supporting them in the years that followed. Bob will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by many, especially his loving family.
When asked in an interview how you would like to be remembered, Bob replied “As a person who helped people and helped his community”
Bob is survived by his daughters, Laurie (David) Gaul, Lynn (Ron) Salisbury, Susie (Gary) Folan and Angie Rossi; grandchildren, Scott Dilworth, Liz Ruffley, Katie Hoffrichter, Andrew Gaul, Christopher Gaul, Timmy Gaul, William Gaul, Michael Salisbury, Ronnie Salisbury, Matthew Salisbury, Robert Salisbury, Drew Folan, Devin Hooey, Brookie Folan, Bryan Folan and Robert Rossi; 21 great grandchildren; siblings, Charles Beattie, Jean (Warren) Koch and Ralph (Terry) Beattie; brother in law and sister in law, Bill and Charlene Recor; special aunt, Kate Thompson and cousin, Marvin Thompson.
In addition to his beloved wife, Bob was predeceased by brothers, James and David Beattie.
A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday August 19th at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Marine City. Visiting hours are Friday 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp.
Bob’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
