Rita Corrine Kapanka's Obituary
Rita Corrine Kapanka, age 93, of St. Clair, passed away October 7, 2024. She was born March 21, 1931 in Detroit to the late Herbert and Mabel Uppleger.
On January 3, 1953, Rita married Robert H. Kapanka in St. Clair and they enjoyed 61 years of marriage before his passing in 2014. Rita and Bob enjoyed many years of camping trips with the Thumb Bums camping group. Rita was an accomplished seamstress and also had a creative gift for painting and ceramics. She was also a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Rita’s greatest joy in life was caring for her children and watching her family grow, as she also enjoyed every moment with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Rita is survived by her children, Keith (Tammie) Kapanka, Paula (Don) Wade, Judy DeFrane, Janet (Herb) Robbins, Carl (Janine) Kapanka and Sally (Richard) Hamilton; grandchildren, Angie, Melanie (Jeff), Allison (Nick), Chris, Jennifer (Mike), Katie (Travis), David (Ashley), Brad (Nikole), Hayden, Katie, Tiffiany (Tony), MacKenzie and Paige; great grandchildren, Conner, Marshall, Rose, Kora, Callan, Emily, Hannah, Peyton, Sawyer, Wyatt and Owen; sister, Madeline Tomak and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Stephanie Wade and son in law, Bruce DeFrane.
A funeral mass will be held Saturday, October 12th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Clair. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visiting hours are Friday 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp.
