Richard E. Roland's Obituary
Richard E. Roland, age 85, of East China, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2024. He was born on April 27th, 1938 to the late Richard and Annie Roland. Richard was a graduate of Ferndale High School. Following high school, he attended Lawrence Tech University, where he earned his Bachelors Degree in engineering. He went on to work as an engineer for General Motors for 38 years. During his time at GM, he was apart of the Corvette Group in the 1970s then worked in bumpers and facia. Richard also took part in numerous car shows in Detroit and New York. Richard was an avid outdoorsman. He was a member of the Sundowners Camping Club, Sno-Snoopers Snowmobile Club, Richmond, as well as the Huron Pointe Sportsman Club. He enjoyed sporting clay shooting, as well as photography. A skill that he learned in college, turned into a passion and a hobby as the years went on.
He is survived by his children, Dawn (Terry) Pieprzak, Gregory (Jennifer) Roland, Scott (Anna) Roland; grandchildren, Heather (Joseph Jr.) Oles, Joel (Amber) Pieprzak, Kaitlyn Roland, Katherine Roland, Austin (Cara Hamlin) Roland, Lindsay Roland; great grandchildren, Addison and Joseph Oles III, Brody and Ethan Pieprzak; sister, Sharon Owens; his wife of 51 years, Rosalie Roland (Giganti): sister in law, Mary Giganti, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his in-laws, Anthony (Lena) Giganti; brother-in-law, Anthony Giganti.
A funeral service will take place on Saturday, April 27th at 11:30 a.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Huron Pointe Sportsman Club.
