I want to extend my condolences to both My niece , Lynn Chapman and nephew, Rick Humbarger over the loss of their father, Richard “Dick” Humbarger.
My best memories of Dick are from many years ago when he was a young father to these two, who were incredibly adorable and charming young children. I was just a youngster myself, so becoming an “ Aunt” was a big deal to me. I lost my father at about this same time, so I would have to say Dick served as a great substitute for my young dads‘ passing quite unexpectedly.
Most of my memories are of course from camping, Lake Michigan and boating/ water skiing. Those next 10-15 years in Niles, Michigan, Chicago, Bad Axe, Grand Haven and Weko Beach were some of the best times of my life. I reflect back to how innocent and wonderful those times were for me and my inclusion with my brother-in-law and his young family’s life. I believe the last time I spent time with Dick was the summer of ‘72, when I moved to Colorado with my baby, Kim and husband, John.
I will treasure the loving beautiful memories of a handsome, pipe smoking, charming young
boyish man, instead of regretting how time inevitably erased these experiences as we all grew older and let distance, politics, divorce and the like diminish our involvement in one another’s lives.
God Bless You Dick. May you Rest In Peace.
Much love to Lynn and to Rick, too.
Aunt Jane
Uncle Dick you will always be missed. I always looked forward to seeing you at Xmas and thanksgiving dinner at Grandma Lerash’s. Always smoking your pipe on the recliner! I’ll never forget it.
I had the pleasure of getting to know Hummer while on a bike ride along Rte.66 to Ventura, CA a few years back. He had an exceptional character, was a fine story teller and stood by his word. I liked riding back about 3- 4 seconds, just to get the occasional whiff of pipe smoke. Ride With Pride ! Bob and Alma Hillier, Sarnia, ON.
Hummer was the best sergeant in the MSP. He was a kind man. But, he was a no nonsense member of the MSP. He did his job well
You have to look far and wide to find a Hummer, God only made a few of them.

I was lucky enough to have worked along side Richard for a number of years in the MSPTA. Dick was passionate, insightful and totally dedicated to the well being of all of our members. Rest in eternal peace my brother!

Hummer was a man of sharp wit with a warm smile. His pipe and his stories will be missed.
