Raymond J. Gauthier's Obituary
Raymond J. Gauthier, age 84, of St. Clair went home to be with his God on Saturday March 19, 2022. He was born December 22, 1937 during the depression in a place affectionally known as Jungletown, to Walter and Beatrice Gauthier. Ray was one of eleven living children. Ray was predeceased by his wife, Anita and by his daughters, Colette and Corrine.
He is survived by his son, Gary (Rebecca) Gauthier and daughter, Brigette (Kim) Mills; grandchildren, David Paeth, Gabrielle (Theo) McGuire, Kayleigh Gauthier and Jacob Hogan. He is also survived by his sisters, Ruth Lester, Laura Hickman, Susan McCreery and Sarah Butts. Ray was also predeceased by sisters, Carolyn Jackson, Mary Gill and Beatrice Haxer and brothers, Howard, Fred and Walt Gauthier.
After graduating St. Mary’s Catholic School, Ray had a long career in the military serving with the 11th Airborne as a paratrooper. He later joined the Air Force, with a total of 27 years of service. He met the love of his life, a beautiful Jewish girl, Anita, during his tour of Germany. During his military service he went back to college and under the G.I. Bill, obtained degrees in nursing and social work. At the age of 53 he wen to Desert Storm to assist with a medical unit on a ship. He was formally president of The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI)
A graveside service will be conducted Sunday, July 17, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Rosehill Cemetery, East China Twp.
