Raymond & Elizabeth Pawlowski's Obituary
The family of Elizabeth J. Pawlowski is saddened to announce her passing on September 12, 2016 at the age of 89 after a long illness. She was born in Bridgeville, PA on July 25, 1927 and was the youngest of four girls. On January 3, 1947, she married Raymond S. Pawlowski and moved with him to Colorado, where he was stationed at Camp Carson after WW II. After 69 years of marriage Raymond preceded her in passing on May 29, 2016.
Elizabeth was a home maker. She and Raymond settled in St. Clair Shores, Michigan where they raised three children. Raymond was a long term member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and Elizabeth was active in the Women’s Auxiliary. She was masterful at sewing and needlework, making unique quilts and gifts for charity fundraisers and family members.
After Raymond’s retirement from Pipefitter’s Local 636, they moved to Port Huron, MI where they enjoyed gardening and being active in 10th Mountain Division WWII Veterans conventions and outings. They revisited Italy where Raymond fought in the Po Valley Campaign to end the Nazi occupation of Italy. They were longtime members of Lakeshore Presbyterian Church in Fort Gratiot where they helped with the annual Harvest Dinners and regularly cooked for Mid City Nutrition at St. Martins Church.
Elizabeth and Raymond leave behind three children: Raymond J. (Linda), Robert M. (Gail Billings), and Stephanie A. (Jerry) Matt, five grandchildren, Kelly, Raymond, Adam, Gretchen, and Corey, and seven great grandchildren, ages 3 – 13. Also left behind are many nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren.
There will be a combined visitation and memorial service for Elizabeth and Raymond on October 8, 2016, located at Young Funeral Home, 4061 St. Clair Highway, East China MI. Visitation will be 11am - 2 pm and service with military honors at 2pm. Please join our family in saying goodbye to Elizabeth and Raymond, her decorated WWII spouse.
Instead of flowers, donations can be made to your Local VFW or DAV Chapter with a designation for “Homeless Veterans”.
