Raoul Van Hecke's Obituary
Raoul Van Hecke, age 88, of St. Clair, formerly of Detroit, passed away January 13, 2019. He was born May 20, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois.
Raoul honorably served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After the war he worked in the masonry trades for his entire working career, retiring at age 80. Growing up in Detroit, Raoul developed a great love for the city of Detroit. He was a very caring and generous man always ready to help those less fortunate than him.
He is survived by his children, Rochelle (Joe) Aprile, Denise (John) Klimaszewski, Cheryl (Duane) Hurt, Renee Marshall, Raoul (Clementine) Van Hecke and Robyn (Steve) Koral; 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Patricia Van Hecke and son, Bryan Van Hecke.
A Memorial Gathering will be held Thursday January 17th from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial, with a service conducted at 3:30 p.m. followed by military honors with dinner starting at 4:30 p.m.
