Mr. Paul Kunnath's Obituary
Paul Kunnath, 86, passed away at his home in East China Township on the
morning of Tuesday, April 9, 2013. He was born in Detroit on January
24, 1927, the first of two sons of Paul and Frances Kunnath. Paul was
married to his high school sweetheart, Rita (Grzelak) Kunnath, on June
28, 1947, and remained happily married to her for nearly sixty-sixyears
until she preceded him in death in February 2013.
Paul was a decorated World War II Veteran of the U.S. Navy, honorably
serving on aircraft carriers in the South Pacific. In 1950, he joined
the Detroit Police Department and proudly served as an officer until
his retirement in 1981. Paul was also a talented artist, creating
beautiful wood carvings for his friends and family.
Paul's children, Richard (Linda) Kunnath, Paulette (John) Hessenbruch
,Mark (Geni) Kunnath, and Gail (Bob) Nead, survive to cherish his
memory. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Donna Marie
Salski. Also surviving are Paul's only brother, Richard (Sue) Kunnath,
nine grandchildren, nearly fourteen great grandchildren, and many
friends and relatives.
Paul's strong work ethic, devotion to family, and willingness to serve
truly make him a member of the Greatest Generation. He will be dearly
missed and always loved.
A Mass of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, April 13, at 11 a.m. at
St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Clair, MI. The family will receive
visitors from 10:30 to 11 prior to Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials
may be made to The Salvation Army, www.salvationarmyusa.org/, or to a
charity of choice.
