Patrick Joseph Yacques' Obituary
Patrick Joseph Yacques, age 88, of Marysville, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. He was born January 9, 1933 on Harsens Island to the late Scott F. and Helen L. Yacques (Hoffman), of the Greenville Ohio Hoffmans. Scott and Helen gave Pat a love of music, nature, adventure, learning and “people” in general.
Pat got his schooling from Marine City Holy Cross, and the University of Detroit. His BSME Degree and subsequent registration as Professional Engineer were interrupted by a four-year enlistment in the USCG where he served in the Atlantic and Pacific Districts during the Korean Conflict.
Pat married his high school sweetheart and celebrated 68 years with Gloria Dawn (Maley) Corbett as they raised eight children Patrick Jr. (Sally), Pamela Jones (Dennis), Scott F. (Alicia), Perry, Kevin, Angela Lynch (Bryan), Michael and Matthew. He is preceded in death by Pamela, Kevin, Michael and Matthew. The children blessed them with ten grandchildren; Steffany, Alex, Brittney, Ryan, J.W., Laura, Cameron, Crystal, Jeffrey, Hannah and seven great grandchildren; Rory, Xander, Charles, Bentley, Liam, Kynleigh and Finn.
Pat spent his working years sailing the Great Lakes in the Merchant Marine, traveling to Europe and Asia in connections with a division of Pillsbury, working locally with Thompson-Phelan, where he made many life-long friends. Later in retirement worked as a consultant to the DeNoyelles Company of Franklin, Tennessee.
Pat thoroughly enjoyed singing baritone in several barbershop quartets and for a few years was the director of the Port Huron Chorus.
A lifelong Christian, he considered his demise to be his “Last Great Adventure”. His life will be celebrated at a memorial mass at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Marine City in the summer of 2021.
