Patrick Barry Mahoney's Obituary
Patrick Barry Mahoney of China Township passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, after a two-year battle with cancer. He fought a strong fight and was very active until the last month of his life.
Patrick was born on July 5, 1957, in Detroit, Michigan. Pat was lovingly raised by his Grandma Barry, his Aunt Eleanor Barry, and his mother, Elizabeth Getrude Mahoney. Pat attended Assumption Grotto, St. Francis Home for Boys, and the Detroit Aero Mechanics Vocational High School, graduating in 1975. He also attended some college courses at the Detroit Institute of Technology.
Pat had a great sense of humor and such a kind heart; he was always so fun to be around. He was very industrious and gifted working with anything mechanical or electrical. As a kid, he loved taking stuff apart and fixing things. Throughout his life, he loved cars and owned countless unique vehicles. As a teenager, he even built a dune buggy from scratch. With all his skills, he was very successful with projects at home, and he was a successful entrepreneur, starting and running two businesses. But where Pat really shined was with helping others. He was constantly fixing things, installing things, and building things for others. He had a soft spot for helping his friends and relatives, especially those who couldn’t do things for themselves.
Pat also had a soft spot for his dogs; they were like his kids. He was always surrounded by multiple dogs, sometimes owning four or five at a time. From his early favorites, Mack and Sport, to his most recent “little ones,” River and Rock, Pat will certainly be surrounded by love when he reaches the Rainbow Bridge.
Surviving him are his older brothers Mike (Marcie) and Leo (Darlene) and his cousins Judy, Karen, Jim, and Barb. Pat never married or had children but had many loving nieces and nephews: Jon Paul Conroy Jr., Angela and Leah, and Jeffrey and Daniel. Pat also remained close with his sister-in-law, Terry Mahoney, and all her family. Terry’s family loved Pat and considered him part of their family.
Pat had many friends whom he also considered to be family. Jon Paul Conroy Sr. was a close friend and co-worker. Michael DeLisle was his close friend and long-time business partner. Philip Allor was another very good friend who also worked closely with Pat in his latest business venture. Michael and Jon Sr were Pat’s primary caretakers the last few months. Special thanks to Mike, Jon, and “Junior,” who all stayed by Pat’s side around the clock and took loving care of him throughout his cancer battle.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday May 28, 2025 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home in China, Michigan. Pat will lie in state on Thursday May 29, 2025 from 9:30-10:00 a.m. at St. Isidore Catholic Church, 18201 23 Mile Road, Macomb Township, with a funeral Mass immediately following at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township. Memorials may be made to wishes of the family. To leave a message of comfort visit www.youngcolonial.com
