Norman "Norm" Markel's Obituary
Norman "Norm" Markel, Sr., age 96, of Marine City, passed away May 30, 2022 with his family by his side. He was born on September 5, 1925 to the late Alfred and Mary Markel. He married his wife Marcella on May 22, 1946. She preceded him in death on September 8, 2011.
He owned and operated Markel's Recycling for 40 plus years. Prior to that he worked for Detroit Gasket and also did excavation and demolition work.
He was a lifelong member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Marine City. Norm enjoyed traveling with Marcella and was also an avid bowler.
He is survived by his children; Geri Markel, Helen Love, Tom (Cathy) Markel, Nancy Stierlet, Gary (Debbie) Markel, Wendy (Joe) LaFontaine and Norman Markel, Jr.
He is also survived by special friend; Jody Klier, 17 grandchildren and several great and great-great grandchildren. As well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son in-law; Dan Stierlet, grandson; Eric Quandt, brother; Donald Markel and sisters; Viola Endres and Barbara Haack.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 11 at Our Lady on the River Parish, Holy Cross Catholic Church, Marine City. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Marine City. Visiting hours will be Friday, June 10 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. and one hour at church prior to mass. A rosary will be said at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening.
