Norma Jean Bassett's Obituary
“Dear God, we cared enough to send you over our very best.”
Norma Jean Bassett, age 95, of Marine City passed away April 25, 2023. She was born on July 1, 1927 in St. Clair to the late John and Minnie (Osterland) Dragmiller. Norma graduated from St. Clair High School in 1945. She played softball on a women’s softball league and won the State Championship in 1942.
Norma married Gerald (Jerry) Bassett on May 15, 1948 and they resided in Marine City all of their married life until Jerry’s passing in 2004.
Norma was a lifelong member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Marine City. She was an extremely loving, kind and gentle lady. She was known as Mimi to all of her grandchildren and all of their friends. Norma was very witty and she loved music. She and Jerry were avid sports fans they loved their winters in Florida and having season tickets to the Detroit Tigers Spring Training games.
She is survived by her children, Jerry J. (Dianna) Bassett, Jeannie (Warren) Senger, Johnny Ray Bassett and Joni Richmond; grandchildren, John (Lilly) Daniels, Amanda Kort, Lindsay Nelson, Melissa Senger, Courtney (Jesse) LaBuhn, Matt (Lisa) Senger, Joshua (Chantel) DeLorge, Lacey Bassett; 20 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren sister; Donna Simons, along with many nieces and nephews.
Norma is preceded in death by her son-in-law David Richmond, siblings and their spouses, Bill (June) Dragmiller, Bing (Monnie) Dragmiller, Mabel (Rolly) Hallier, Evelyn (Ernie) Gallagher and Eddie Simons; her in laws Don (Margaret) Bassett and Esther (Pete) Roehl.
A memorial service will be held Saturday May 6, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. with visiting from 2:00 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
